Celebrity couple Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas grabbed attention earlier in the year with the announcements of their relationship and subsequent engagement, and they’re taking the spotlight again with a series of wedding ceremonies and receptions around the world.
Earlier this month, the former Jonas Brothers singer and the Bollywood-turned-Hollywood actress tied the knot in two different wedding ceremonies. One honored Chopra’s traditional Hindu roots, and the other honored Jonas’s Christian background. The couple held the ceremonies over two consecutive days in India. After the dual ceremonies, they hosted a reception at the Taj Palace in New Dehli, India.
Following those celebrations, Jonas and Chopra were able to spend quiet time together as a newly married couple. They made their first appearance as husband and wife at an event that marked the launch of the dating app Bumble in New Dehli.
On Dec. 19, Chopra and Jonas returned to India to host two more wedding receptions for friends, family, and the media. While the average amount a couple spends on a traditional American wedding totals about $35,329, and the average number of wedding guests is 165, the celebrity couple is leaving no extravagant detail unaccounted for. At the second of three receptions, Chopra donned a diamond-encrusted necklace by Sabyasachi Mukherji.
This reception was held at the J.W. Marriott in Mumbai, and Chopra also wore a corsetted, royal blue gown with gold embellishments. According to Chopra’s stylist, Ami Patel, her outfit and jewels were all designed by Sabyasachi, who was also the designer behind Chopra and Jonas’s outfits at their Indian ceremony.
Chopra’s mother, Madhu Chopra, hosted the reception and welcomed the media to the grand event, just before the newlyweds entered arm in arm for the mass photo session. Both Chopra and Jonas addressed their guests, thanking them for coming and celebrating the start of their life together. For the third reception held on Dec. 20, the couple are inviting the biggest names in the Bollywood for a star-studded event.
Despite the many events, the couple found the time to cherish their nuptials the way couples around the world do: with some heartfelt tears. Both Chopra and Jonas found their Western ceremony particularly emotional.
“It was all tears. All tears. I could not hold it in. I think I was nervous and scared. But as soon as the curtains opened, and I saw his face it was just like everything settled and I knew I was making the best decision of my life,” said Chopra.
