The unsolved mystery of Malaysian flight has forced the world to recall the deadliest airlines crashes of the history. No doubt, these airline crashes have cost thousands of lives in the past few years and the recent disappearance of Malaysian flight has put 239 families at stake.
The following are the most deadly commercial airlines crashes occurred due to pilot error or mechanical problem in the history:
March 3, 1974: 346 people were killed when a Turkish Airlines DC 10 experienced a sudden mechanical defect and it fell down in a park of France.
March 27, 1977: 574 people were died when a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Boeing 747 during its takeoff crashed into Pan American World Airways Boeing 747.
May 25, 1979: 239 people were killed when engine of left wing of American Airlines DC-10 fell off.
November 28, 1979: Some 275 people died when their Air New Zealand plane, a DC-10, hits Mt. Erebus on Antarctica — a crash that it believed to stem from navigational error.
August 12, 1985: 520 people had been killed when Japan Airlines Flight 123 — a Boeing 747 — crashed not long after takeoff from Tokyo. It was the deadliest crash ever.
May 26, 1991: 223 passengers along with crew team died when The Boeing 767 of Lauda Air’s Flight 004 fell down in Thailand.
July 11, 1991: 261 people died when the landing gear of a Nigeria Airways DC-8 caught fire at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
April 26, 1994: 264 died when the pilot of a China Airlines’ Flight 140 said that he would not land the aircraft, later he changed his mind and attempted to land the plan that caused its crash.
July 17, 1996: 230 died when TWA Flight 800 exploded in into pieces at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
November 12, 1996: 349 people killed when collision took place between Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 747 and a Kazakhstan Airlines II-76 in New Delhi, India.
August 6, 1997: 228 people were killed Flight 801 that had flown from Seoul, South Korea, smacked in to a jungle.
September 26, 1997: Garuda Indonesia airlines’ Flight 152 crashes in Buah Nabar, Indonesia, killing 234 people due to leakage in oil tank.
February 16, 1998: 196 killed due to heavy rain and fog, it was China Airlines’ Flight 676 traveling from Indonesia to Taiwan.
November 12, 2001: Airbus A300 crashed at Belle Harbor, Queens causing 260 deaths, the biggest death tool in the history of U.S.
May 25, 2002: 225 people killed in China Airlines’ Flight 611 that fell into the Taiwan Strait.
June 1, 2009: Air France Flight 447 is en route from Rio de Janiero to Paris when it and its 228 passengers and crew go missing somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean.
