Hurricane Harvey slammed into Texas nearly one year ago, dumping 27 trillion gallons of water on the southern state and causing around $125 billion in damage. The Category 4 hurricane was so devastating that many of the 13 million affected are still recovering, especially in Houston, inspiring local rapper Trae tha Truth to take action.
These Sneakers Were Made For Rapping
The sneaker resale market is worth around $1 billion, showing how much people value shoes as a way to express their individual personality and style. Trae tha Truth understands just what they mean to the youth of this country, and he’s teamed up with a number of rappers in a bid to support Hurricane Harvey relief.
The Houston native organized a charity campaign in which famous rappers donate their iconic sneakers to a raffle, the proceeds of which will go towards Angel By Nature and the Relief Gang, a Houston charity organization designed specifically to help those suffering after Hurricane Harvey. At $10 a ticket, buyers have a chance to win one of the 10 exclusive pairs of sneakers, including DJ Khaled’s rare Jordan 3 “We the Best” pair. The list of donors include:

- DJ Khaled and more!
And it seems they’ve just added another: famous rapper T.I. has recently announced his decision to donate his one of a kind Balenciagas with neon laces to the cause.
“These shoes are important to me, because I had these shoes on when I recorded ‘Ye vs. The People,’ so if you go back and check the video, you look, you can’t miss them.”
The group is using their fame and influence for the common good, encouraging people to donate as much or as little as they can afford. Each $10 ticket means one chance to win a pair of the famous sneakers, and there is no limit to how many you can buy. So far, the campaign has raised an impressive $65,940 and show no signs of stopping anytime soon.
